A tree removal from NRV Tree Pro covers the whole job, not just the cutting. We assess the tree and everything around it, rig and drop it in sections when the space is tight, and take the debris with us when we go. Most residential removals in Narrows, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Radford are finished in a single day. We regularly work trees growing close to houses, driveways and power lines, where the tree cannot simply be felled in one piece and has to come down in controlled sections. Every removal ends with the site raked and cleared — our customers consistently mention the cleanup, and that is deliberate. The weight has to come off the structure before anything else happens, and it has to come off in the right order — cutting the wrong section first can drop the rest of the tree through what you were trying to save. How much does tree removal cost in the New River Valley?
There is no flat rate for tree removal, because no two trees are the same job. The price is driven by the size and species of the tree, what sits underneath it, how close it is to power lines or a structure, whether our equipment can reach it, and whether you want the stump ground out. A straightforward tree in an open yard is a much smaller job than a large hardwood leaning over a roof that has to be rigged down in sections. That is why we come out and look before quoting. Estimates are free and there is no obligation to book. You get a written price before any work starts, and it does not change unless the scope does.
Do you remove trees near power lines?
Yes — this is a regular part of our work in the New River Valley, where a lot of mature trees sit close to service lines. A tree near power lines cannot be felled in one piece. It has to be dismantled in controlled sections and rigged down so nothing swings into the line or the house. That takes longer than a straight fell, which is part of why proximity to power lines affects the price. If a tree is already touching or has brought down a live line, do not approach it — call your utility first, then call us.
How fast can you get out after a storm?
Storm damage and hazard trees move to the front of our schedule. If a tree is on your roof, across your driveway or leaning on a structure, call us — that is not a job that waits for a routine estimate slot. Our customers regularly describe us responding the same day or the next day for urgent work, including a tree that had fallen onto a roof. For non-urgent removals we typically get out to look within a few days and book the work from there. We are reachable 8am to 6pm, seven days a week.
Do you take the wood and debris away?
Yes. Full haul-away is included in a standard removal, not billed as an extra. Limbs, brush and cut wood leave with us, and we rake and clear the work area before we go. Cleanup is the single thing our customers mention most often in reviews, and that is on purpose — a yard full of debris is only half a finished job. If you would rather keep the wood for firewood, tell us up front and we will cut it to length and stack it instead of hauling it off.
Do you grind the stump as well?
Stump grinding is available and is quoted alongside the removal, so you can decide either way. Some customers want the stump ground out so the area can be re-seeded, re-planted or paved. Others are happy to leave it cut low at grade, which costs less. Tell us which you want when we come out to look and it will be priced into the written estimate rather than added later.
How do I know if a tree actually needs to come down?
The signs worth acting on are large dead limbs, a trunk that is hollow, split or shedding bark in sheets, fungus growing at the base, roots lifting out of the ground, and a lean that has changed recently. A tree over a house, driveway or play area deserves a closer look than one in an open field. That said, not every damaged tree needs removing — crown work or dead-wooding sometimes saves it, and we will tell you when that is the better option. We would rather trim a tree you can keep than remove one you did not need to lose.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my property?
Requirements vary by locality, and they can differ between Giles County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County and the towns inside them. Rules can also be set by an HOA or by a right-of-way easement rather than by the county itself. We will flag anything we notice when we come out to look at your tree, but the authoritative answer for your specific address comes from your county or town office — please confirm with them before work is booked if you are unsure.
